Did You Know ...

In 1940, there were 4 million Americans working for the government and 11 million working in manufacturing.
Today, there are 7 million more Americans working for the government (21.5 million total) than in all manufacturing industries combined (industry total is 14.5 million).
As a result, we have shifted from an economy of people who made things to an economy of people who tax, regulate, subsidize, and outlaw things. We certainly have more rule-makers and red-tape dispensers than ever before.
Stephen Moore of the National Review (Feb. 2, 2004)

"Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one."
--- Ben Franklin
Note: This quote is still applicable today in reference to the Patriot Act. We must fight for our freedom and that includes guarding our borders. Presidents Clinton and Bush have not done well to protect our borders and there are those in the world who desire to undermine our freedoms.

"We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not on the power of government ... (but) upon the capacity of each and every one of us to govern ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God."
--- James Madison

The ultimte measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

the use of them is wisdom;
the choice of them is education.
Knowledge is not power but riches, and like them, has its value in spending.

--- Peter Hoagland, Nebraska State Senator

"There is no country in the whole world, in which the Christian religion retains a greater influence over the souls of men than in America: and there can be no greater proof of its utility, and of it conformity to human nature, than that its influence is most powerfully felt over the most enlightened and free nation of the earth."

President Eisenhower Selecting California Governor Earl Warren as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court

In order to get the large California delegation vote in the 1952 Republican National Convention, Ike promised his first Supreme Court appointment to California governor Earl Warren. That was a backroom deal.
As fate would have it, the first vacancy was for Chief Justice. At the time, Earl Warren had a tantrum and claimed that he was entitled to be chief since Ike had promised the "first vacancy." Ike eventually selected Earl and later expressed regrets over his decision. Earl Warren remained on the Supreme Court for many years and gave us a long series of liberal decisions that has uprooted many of the family values in our society over the course of years.

The silence from churches across America on Earl Warren's liberal court paved the way for many more liberal decisions that now has set precendents for the effort to remove "Christianity" from our public institutions, including public schools.

LBJ ...

To hide the cost of the Viet Nam war, LBJ pooled all independent trust funds into one giant pot. Because a stew obscures its exact ingredients, the subsequent budget stew became the tax-raising tool of choice for government, without ever using those dirty words.
Consequently, over the past years, payroll tax rates keep increasing and yet the trust funds are on the verge of bankruptcy. The actions taken when government shutdown illustrate how the treasurey can take money from one trust fund and transfer it to another with impunity. such activity would be criminal in the corporate world, but not in Washington.
Our politicians are still dancing to LBJ's tune as America's trust funds boil away. Few have the guts to risk their career today for the future of our children. To do it right, all trust funds must be taken off budget and the funds invested for real growth and savings. As long as it remains in one pot, payroll taxes will continue to rise to reduce the appearance of the deficit. It is time our politicians take action.
